Stand-Up Videos

Capitol City Comedy Club 2018 (above)

Each year 200 -- or so -- Austin comedians duke it out on stage to see who is the Funniest Person in Austin (FPIA) at Capitol City Comedy Club. This is my set from May 2018.

I’ve made several videos for a show I produced, and, occasionally, hosted. The show, Clique Bait, was done with the help of my very good friends: Jake Rowe, Dany Recio, and Colton Matocha. We made videos on our old Mac computers, and filmed every scene on my iPhone -- 4K mode, of course. In this first video (above) Jake Rowe takes it to the street asking strangers, and tourist, if they heard about our show.

Jake Rowe comes back, I make a narrative appearance, as he shows us how to make a protein shake with Austin comics as the special ingredients. BTW, this was by far the most fun video to make.

Here’s my shot at hogging the spotlight with my baby: Midnights with Matt.

Clique Bait March 25, 2017, Institution Theater, Austin, Texas.

Here’s the thing, a year later the three host for the show (Dany, Jake, and I) had become way too busy with work and getting booked on other shows. This was great news, but hard for the three of us to get together. So, Colton walked over to my house with an old portable television (shown above) to photograph. I had a crazy idea the two us didn’t know would work, but I gave it a shot. The end result? Well, this is by far the easiest, and most effective, video I’ve produced.

Midnights With Matt

It all started when...

I was auditioning to be a weekend air talent for a sister radio station. I made an air-check so bad I was told to never, ever, do something like that again. (You'll soon hear the air-check.) I started playing this short MP3 file at open mics -- the only place where an air-check this bad could survive. It lives on today confusing, but humoring audience members, and is a local comic's favorite bit. That's what it's all about. Here's everything you need to know about Midnight's with Matt:

The syndicated “LIVE” podcast for the overnight, sensational, over-nights show: Midnights With Matt. Giving real “love” advice to callers across the country. Matt, the Midnights with Matt host, and his producer/co-host Terry, take a memorable call from the week, mix it down, and supply a podcast for your sad listening.

Disclaimer: Midnights with Matt is just a podcast I record at work on my free time. It allows me to be creative and silly all at once. I have fun producing this show with Colton Matocha (he's the gentleman sitting next to me and he plays Terry on the show). Each week we will interview one Austin comedian to play a role she or he chooses, and we all go along with it (kinda like improv). Colton and I hope to make this into a live show at one of Austin’s many improv theaters, but we’re in the process of writing it. And by “writing” I mean we’ve talked about it. And by “talked about it” I mean we just mentioned it over a coffee and a Topo Chico at a local barista shop. So, Coming Soon: Midnights with Matt LIVE!

The happy accident that made it all happen.

Matt downloads a dating app.

Matt gives advice to his first caller, Andrew Horeman (Austin comedian).

Matt has a new lover who purposes a way to keep things "fresh" in their relationship.

The year of 2017 will be forever ingrained in my memory for one reason: I was booked for a podcast!

May 19, 2017:

Full disclosure, Jake Rowe and Dany Recio are my closest friends in the Austin community. They're real young, and they have, as they say, "heard it first." You can check it out here:

April 26, 2017:

Ryan With The Millennials features comedians much younger than Ryan, speaking about things Ryan may not fully understand. But Ryan is filled with knowledge, and was a New York comedian in early 2000s. I didn't explain anything new to Ryan, but in this podcast I spoke about the one thing haunting me my entire life: insecurity. You can listen here:
